Sheep as Lawn Mowers

Apart from feeding my fiber habit, the sheep are very helpful in taming our wild pastures which border the lawn. They have the ability to change weedy areas like in the above photo, into areas

like this (area is behind white poles).

I suppose in a pinch they could mow the real lawn if the tractor broke or gas went up to $5.00 a gallon! We don't have a border collie anymore but move the sheep by running full speed in front of them carrying a small grain bucket. Even our chocolate lab tries to help out. The sheep pretty much know the drill but sometimes one will be stubborn and find a particularly juicy spot of grass and stop short while the rest keep galloping after the poor family member trying to outrun the stampede. I hope to get a short video of this whole procedure when they move next, so stay tuned. It's pretty amusing to watch.
