On the way back from the soccer game today we drove up a road that always has gorgeous views. I figured some leaf peeing was in store. And was it spectacular up there! But guess what? My camera batteries were dead! So we drove back to the house and had lunch. Puttered around a little and drove back up. But the weather had taken a turn for the worse and it started to rain. The beautiful colors in the distant hills were washed out by misty rain and the contrasting dark green of the fields wasn't nearly as vivid. I was very disappointed to miss what would have been gorgeous photos. Believe it or not, behind the first line of trees those hills were incredibly colorful. By tomorrow with this rain and wind most of those leaves will be gone. Normally it's pretty cold in mid October and the grass isn't so lush. That's what struck me about the colors today. The bright reds and the dark greens.
This is the lone red maple in our back yard proudly displaying it's beautiful red leaves, among the hemlocks.
