Stain Recommendations

Back in the days when we owned a wood siding house we decided to paint it ourselves, exterior shutters and all. Thats why I am glad that as I was taking note of what maintenance items need to be done around this house, I was grateful for vinyl siding. However the back deck and front porch need staining. I am looking for recommendations on a good stain that lasts. So far we have yet to find one we are happy with. Any advice anyone?
